The Crown Chakra: A Source of Wisdom and Higher Knowledge

This chakra is often pictured as a lotus flower opening as a means to allow spiritual awakening to occur.  The crown chakra is most commonly represented with the colour white, although it can also be depicted as violet or purple.

The most commonly accepted location for the seventh chakra is at the top of the head or slightly above the head. It sits like a crown, radiating upwards, hence its name.

The Crown chakra could also be considered the well that intuitive knowing is drawn from. It gives us access to higher states of consciousness as we open to what is beyond our personal preoccupations and visions. The function of the Crown chakra is driven by consciousness and connects us to the universe.

This chakra is primarily associated with the pituitary gland, and secondarily to the pineal and the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus and pituitary gland work together to regulate the endocrine system.  Because of its location, the crown chakra is closely associated with the brain and the whole nervous system. The Crown chakra has a connection with the first chakra, as they both are at the extremities of the chakra system.

The Crown chakra is associated with the following characteristics:

• Consciousness
• Awareness of higher consciousness and wisdom of what is sacred
• Connection with the formless and the limitless
• Realization and liberation from limiting patterns
• Communion with higher states of consciousness, with ecstasy and bliss
• The gateway to the cosmic self or the divine self and to universal consciousness

As we are immersed in the energy of the crown chakra, we feel a state of blissful union with all that is, of spiritual ecstasy. This chakra allows access to the upmost clarity and enlightened wisdom.

You will receive many gifts from the Crown chakra, including the experience of unity and the realisation that everything in this world is connected or linked to everything at a fundamental level. In essence, the Crown chakra focuses on being of service to others, sticking to your values, observing high ethics, being a humanitarian, and being sensitive to the environment.

The violet colour of the Crown chakra is cleansing and purifying.  It is the colour of magic, mystery, connection, cleansing and ritual.  It’s the colour that gives you a glimpse of other realities and higher dimensions.

In a state of balance, you will feel a connection with other beings, with the earth and with the Universe. Because of your expanded awareness, you will feel connected to your spirit and transcend boundaries. Being of service to others is an attribute of a balanced and healthy Crown chakra.

Your Crown chakra will be deeply influenced by meditation because it is your connection to the higher power and to your Higher Self.   

A Meditation for Balancing the Crown Chakra

Visualize a golden light illuminating the crown of your head, including that space just above it. Feel this glow recharge and illuminate both your body and spirit. Allow this soft but powerful light to reconnect you with the world, with your own true light and authentic self. You can also imagine a violet lotus flower above your head at any time for a simple crown chakra activation. Spending time under the sun is beneficial for balancing this chakra as it resonates with Light.
